Color
Theory presents Depeche Mode is a one-man tribute
to Depeche Mode, complete with two new instrumental interludes.
Eleven of their most underappreciated songs reinvented, plus "Ponytail
Girl", the Color Theory original that the world mistook
for DM.
A new kind of tribute album
No
doubt about it. There have been some great Depeche Mode covers.
Who can forget Robert Smith's trademark vocal mannerisms
on The Cure's "World in My Eyes" or Rammstein's
grisly rendition of "Stripped"?
But
the problem with all those other tribute albums is that they are
hit and miss. Sure, you'll usually find one or two good tracks,
but is it worth slogging through a dozen duds to find them? And
since each track is recorded by a different band, it doesn't really
feel like an album, much less a Depeche Mode album.
Now,
Depeche Mode fans have a reason to be excited.
The only Depeche Mode tribute that plays like
a Depeche Mode album
Color
Theory presents Depeche Mode is the sixth full-length CD
release by an established artist. Each track was designed to flow
smoothly into the next. Rest assured you won't find yourself reaching
for the skip button.
Instrumental
interludes have always been a big part of the Depeche Mode experience,
and Color Theory presents Depeche Mode is no exception.
Since this is a unique set of songs, it wouldn't make sense to recycle
interludes from past DM albums. Instead, two new interludes were
composed and recorded specifically for this project, serving to
bind the songs together into a unified whole.
